Twenty Residents and a Gristmill

Anna's history moves at railroad speed. The tracks arrived in 1873, while the Houston and Texas Central line was being built between Dallas and Denison. When the town was platted a decade later, it had about twenty residents, two stores, a steam gristmill and a Baptist church, according to the City of Anna's history page. John F. Greer, who is credited with its first home and store, became its first mayor when it incorporated in 1913.

A person standing on that townsite today would hardly recognize what surrounds it. New rooftops now spread out from the highway, and plenty of those houses have garages that have never held anything but a car and a few moving boxes.

Two Kinds of Anna Floors

In the newer subdivisions, the main questions are about timing and style: is the slab cured, and do you want a subtle gray flake or something with more color? Repairs tend to be minor on these, which leaves more of the conversation for the look you want.

Near the older parts of town, you may find smaller garages, carports and outbuildings with concrete that has lived a long life. Old paint, oil stains and uneven patches are all common there. They are worth mentioning up front, since those floors spend most of their project time in prep.
